This whimsical unicorn birthday party was a big hit with the kids and parents! Everyone loved the pastel colors, unicorns and yummy sweets.
The unicorn invitation:
Guests were invited to this unicorn party with these gold and rainbow unicorn invitations.
When guests arrived, they were greeted at the front door with this welcome sign:
Then we helped everyone turn into unicorns with white and gold horns and colorful tails made out of tulle. While they were putting on their unicorn horns and tails, we looked at this cute sign to find their unicorn name. Even some of the boys played along.
Here’s some of our unicorns:
Make your own magic:
Next we sat down and “Made our own magic” by making necklaces and bracelets. I had beads already put into small cups I found at the dollar store and had the elastic string pre-cut to speed up our jewelry making. The girls loved this & the boys played with the dozens of clear balloons that were scattered all around the house.
Adopt a unicorn:
The kids were invited to “adopt a unicorn” of their own for our next activity. My mother has been crocheting for a long time & was happy to make 2 dozen unicorns for party favors. This was a big hit. Even some of the adults wanted to adopt a unicorn!
You can adopt a unicorn too! Here are some unicorns to choose from.
There’s so many cute ideas on pinterest of different kinds of unicorn food to serve that I had a hard time narrowing it down. I wanted to keep things simple this year and decided to go with cupcakes instead of a cake. I loved handing out cupcakes instead of cutting cake. To keep with the unicorn theme, I had pink cupcakes with gold wrappers and half of the cupcakes had a white unicorn horn (made out of seashell candy melts) in the center and half of the cupcakes had a gold glittery unicorn on them.
I love the way these cupcakes turned out. They were so much more glamorous than a cake would have been (and much cheaper.)
I absolutely fell in love with these uni-berries (strawberries that look like unicorns.) Find out how I made these unicorn strawberries.
We used these gold plates and cups with a golden unicorn in the center. They say “Happy 6th birthday Ryleigh” My daughter loves rainbows and unicorns so I also made plates with a rainbow and unicorn for her.
Here’s some more food we had and how we displayed it:

For drinks, we served “rainbow juice” (hugs), sprite, coke and water with these gold unicorn water bottle labels & gold chevron straws (from Walmart.)
I made this unicorn banner for Ryleigh but decided to break up the “Happy birthday” and “Ryleigh” and put them in two places. I love how her name looks under the unicorn head at the dessert table.
No party is complete without a pinata and boy did we have a big one. We found this giant purple unicorn pinata at K-Mart and Ryleigh just had to have it. She loves it so much that she didn’t want to break it to get the candy out so I held it up and grabbed handfuls of candy to throw to the kids.
